General Experience

I am a professional member of the Society of Indexers.

My specialisms include all aspects of horticulture, having trained under the Historic and Botanic Training Programme with the National Trust, followed by running my own gardening business.  During this time I have achieved the RHS Level 3 diploma.

I previously worked as a Case Progression Officer/Investigative Support Officer with West Yorkshire Police which included training as a HOLMES indexer for major incidents. In the latter part of my career I worked on fraud investigations using specialist software with a strong indexing element to record all aspects of the investigations and produce navigable electronic files.

Indexing subjects welcome include horticulture/botany, law, history, arts and crafts, food & nutrition, music, business management, literature, geography and wellbeing.

Subjects

Horticulture

I am a professionally trained horticulturist, initially with the National Trust, then in my own gardening business.

I also hold the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society)Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Plant Growth, Health and Applied Propagation which I passed with distinction.

I have also worked as a volunteer for the RHS events department, and Hardy Plant Society where I maintained and updated their seed collection records for the society’s seed distribution scheme.

Law (All Areas)

I hold the Common Professional Postgraduate Certificate in Law, subjects including Contract Law, Tort, Criminal Law, Administrative Law, Equity and Trusts and Land Law.

I also had a 21-year career with West Yorkshire Police. Texts relating to criminal law and criminology would be particularly welcome.

-Business, Finance and Management

My first degree (BA Hons) was in Organization Studies, following on from an HND in Public Administration which I began after my first job with the Inland Revenue. This encompassed studying human behaviour in work situations, social policy, personnel management and law.

-Arts, Crafts and Culture

Drawing and painting – I attend Chinese brush painting workshops which include creating artwork and also learning about Chinese culture.

I also enjoy practising calligraphy of all kinds.

Handicrafts/Fashion & Style – I am a keen knitter, crocheter and sewer in my spare time and have an interest in fashion and design.

Interior design – Any texts within this area would be welcome.

English, French and German literature – I have a particular interest and good general knowledge in these subjects, having studied them at A-Level.

Food and drink.
I am a keen cook, and have a wide selection of books on food and drink. Any books in these categories would be welcome.

Health & nutrition.
Any texts on diet and food/health links would be welcome.

History (All Areas)

British, European and social history.
I have a strong general knowledge and qualifications in history, with a particular interest in the above areas.

Geography - Physical

Physical, human and regional geography.
Studied at A-Level.

Music

Classical and popular music.
Previously played violin to Grade 5 level and was a member of several orchestras. Qualifications also held in music.

I have also performed in a choir.

I have a strong general knowledge of and interest in classical and popular music of all genres.

-Sports and Games

Board games and puzzles.
I enjoy board games and puzzles of all kinds, in particular the new breed of board games as advocated by the Dice Tower podcast.

Walking, swimming, and yoga
Other leisure activities I have an interest in.

Snooker.
I have also been a lifelong snooker fan.
