General Experience
I’m a Professional Member of the Society of Indexers having gained Accreditation following my successful completion of the SI training course. I was awarded the Moys-Crane Prize by the Society of Indexers for being the best newly accredited indexer in 2023. I’m currently minute secretary to the SI Marketing Committee enabling involvement in the SI and was previously the Student Representative, enjoying contact with fellow student indexers and the Training Course Committee.
I have previous experience as a freelance abstract writer for a legal publisher, creating entries for an online journals service, writing abstracts and assigning keywords and subjects using a taxonomy. I also have experience as a professional law librarian for an international law firm, supporting in particular the banking, finance and taxation practice groups.
I studied English Literature as my main subject as part of a Combined Studies degree and my ongoing interests include art and architecture appreciation, local history (I’m a member of the Frome Society for Local Study), film (I was Secretary of the local film club for four years), singing folk songs in a local singing group, walking and wildlife friendly gardening. I ‘m interested in sustainable tourism, reflected in my holiday let business which I’ve been running for well over 10 years.
Subjects
I studied English Literature at A level and degree level. Areas of study included Romantic literature, the Victorian period and 20th-century literature. I have a particular interest in the social, cultural and historical aspects of literature. I also studied American Literature as part of my degree.
I studied Modern History for one year as part of my Combined Studies degree. I also studied British Social and Economic History at A level. I have an ongoing interest in local history, attending talks given by the Frome Society for Local Study, of which I am a member. I have completed the ‘Indexing the past’ SI workshop which covered a range of topics including dealing with historical personal and place names.
I studied British Social and Economic History at A level. I studied Modern History for one year as part of my Combined Studies degree, and English Literature for three years, with a particular interest in the social and historical context.
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies and experience working as a law librarian at an international law firm and pre-qualification in King’s College London library.
I have experience of creating entries for an online legal journals service, assigning keywords and subjects using a taxonomy. Journal subject coverage included banking and finance, company law, competition law, insolvency, intellectual property, shipping, sports law, taxation, VAT and water law.
I have worked as a law librarian for an international law firm, supporting in particular the banking, finance and taxation practice groups.
My final indexing course assignment before accreditation was an index to Sleep by Nick Littlehales, receiving favourable comments from my course adviser:
“This is a well-constructed user-friendly index which shows good understanding and application of the principles and practices of indexing taught in the training course…This is a highly commendable index of a professional standard, showing you have the competence to index commercially and create a product which will be valued by clients.”
I am a member of the Frome Society for Local Study and enjoy attending their informative annual talks programme.
I have an interest in architectural design. I attended evening courses at City University of London on the history of architecture, Renaissance and contemporary architecture, with study tours to Prague and Moscow/St Petersburg, and I continue to learn about architecture as a member of the Frome Society for Local Study.
I have an appreciation of art and enjoy attending exhibitions and open studio events.
I have experience of parenting and an interest in step-parenting and adoption.
I enjoy walking in the UK especially along the South West Coast Path, as well as other parts of the world.

Abstracting
I have experience preparing abstracts from UK legal journal articles, case and legislative comments, for Thomson Reuters' online legal research service Westlaw UK.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies and experience of cataloguing and classifying, using the Moys Classification Scheme for legal materials, when I worked as a law librarian at an international law firm.
